As a child, my father read those books to us in lieu of normal children's books. It's probably why I am the way I am.
Some fun things I researched: annual weather and day/night cycles in Antarctica, obsidian artifacts in Ecuador, and Yumbos Chocolate in Quito.
I wrote the novel 20+ years ago, but a lot of the themes are still relevant, or maybe even more so.
I know I'm being vague, but I don't want to spoiler it. You're welcome.
The silence was excruciating as I watched their eyes scan back and forth as they read. No one showed any emotion, and the silence went on forever.
Mostly I have to grow some of the scenes from the antagonist's point of view so her side of the story is more complete.
I feel like I'm reading--in the words of my child--"an actual book".
